There are several confusing nomenclatures for vascular malformations like nevus, angiomas, hemangiomas, etc. However, the classification needs to be based on the growth of blood vessels (angiogenesis), biological and clinical behavior which has implication for diagnosis and treatment. It is important to identify the lesions which has the potential for spontaneous regression over a period of time. Such lesions can be observed and parents counselled accordingly. Lesions which pose significant threat with progressive increase in size or interfering with vital funcions, require appropriate medical or surgical management. Combined anomalies require a multispeciality approach for the management.
