Liver masses in children can stem from a variety of benign and malignant causes (refer to Fig. 60.1). Hepatoblastoma is the most frequent primary malignant liver tumour in infants and young children. In neonates, infantile hepatic hemangioma is the most common liver mass. Hepatoblastoma typically occurs between 4 months and 4 years of age, whereas hepatocellular carcinoma is more prevalent in older children. Among benign tumours, mesenchymal hamartoma and focal nodular hyperplasia are often observed in young infants and children. The diagnosis and management of liver masses in children are discussed in this chapter.
