Congenital abdominal wall defects occur due to an aberration in the complex embryological process involved in the formation of the abdominal wall. It is, therefore, important to understand the embryology of formation of the abdominal wall in order to identify such anomalies early in the embryonic and fetal period and formulate an appropriate plan of management. The outcome of such anomalies depends on the type, associated anomalies, and quality of available neonatal care. A joint counseling by the perinatology and surgical teams with expert management is associated with better outcomes.
