The Importance of Generating and Interpreting Manufacturing Drawings: A Contribution to Engineering Education
摘要
The design, manufacturing and maintenance information of equipment, parts and components is a very important input in many Industry 4.0 projects. This information is usually printed in technical drawings, manuals or manufacturing drawings which contain the geometric, dimensional and manufacturing information of the designed equipment. The generation and interpretation of manufacturing drawings are two fundamental tasks that engineers must master both for direct engineering applications, such as the manufacture of parts and components, and for the construction of product models for applications in the digitization of manufacturing. This article presents some useful considerations for engineering students related to the generation and interpretation of manufacturing drawings and the conversion of manufacturing drawing information into manufacturing primitives. It will be shown that the manufacturing drawing is a primitive generator whose geometric models are the basis for CAD/CAM systems.
