Ontologies are commonly used to solve the data heterogeneity and integration problems. While ontologies are a preferred solution for data integration challenges, the increasing number of ontologies creates a new challenge: integrating them effectively. The problem of integrating or combining ontologies is commonly called ontology matching or ontology alignment. This literature review provides an analysis of the common challenges and recent advancements in ontology matching. It explores a range of methodologies for ontology matching. Insights from this review contribute to understanding the strengths and limitations of different approaches, guiding researchers and practitioners in selecting suitable methodologies for ontology matching tasks.
