Personal Mastery of an Educational Manager
摘要
To improve the productivity of the organization, an educational manager should use his power of formal education, knowledge, and skills to maximize the output and outcomes so that society benefits from his services. He has to work with a diverse group of people surrounding him inside and outside the organization. The combination of formal and non-formal education, social and political knowledge, and local and global knowledge may help him overcome diverse issues and challenges. In keeping himself updated with all these phenomena, an educational manager has to build study habits in diverse subject matters to understand context, interpret the problem, make better decisions, translate theories into practice, and most importantly, understand internal and external politics. Thus, this chapter details the seven personal mastery skills for principals, with the main purpose of enhancing their capacity to improve their schools. Principals must discern and navigate their school’s internal and external dynamics, stressing the task and institutional environments. They should refine decision-making and problem-solving skills crucial for educational choices impacting school development. Additionally, grasping politics and building alliances, along with overseeing financial management, is essential for overall school advancement.
