The circular economy is a system of managing production processes that aims at minimizing the use of resources and promote their reuse while considering implications for economy, society, and environment simultaneously. It is a kind of sustainable measure which can be adopted by the manufacturers that harvest natural resources and dispose of waste. These tactics may be optimized by using the digital technologies (DTs) such as blockchain or big data which is then known as digital circular economy (DCE). This technology-based CE facilitates failure prediction and preventive maintenance, techniques aimed at enhancing resource efficiency. Extant research remained concentrated on the initial phases of the CE transition, including the identification of opportunities and the building of business models. Discussions concerning the barriers in the way of implementing of CE, specifically the DCE, are infrequent. Nonetheless, to achieve success in the shift, identifying the barriers is as significant as conceptual and technological advancements. This research adopts a comprehensive perspective on identifying barriers related to DCE adoption. The integration of DTs create certain situations that hinder the adoption of DCE such as costs, data safety, limited knowledge, lack of policy support, organizational culture, change management, technological issues, etc. This subject has garnered significant academic interest; however, there consensus remains elusive because the findings from the publications are largely non-generalizable. Consequently, this research presents a review of prior investigations to establish a full understanding of the barriers to the DCE for offering implications to the organizations which are implementing DCE-based practices.
