A Novel Backup Protection Technique for DC Microgrid
摘要
DC applications have a promising future with the growth of renewable power sources due to their better controllability and low losses compared to their AC counterpart. However, the DC power applications are limited due to the challenge in fault clearance as zero crossing is absent in current and the filter capacitor-discharge asks for high-speed relays. Further, it is difficult to provide backup as the fault current reduces to a steady value after an initial rising slope. Hence, in this paper, a new methodology using the area under the current curve during fault is proposed to detect the fault and provide backup to the adjacent line. Simulation results obtained on a 25 kV, 510 V PV-based microgrid in the MATLAB/Simulink reveal that the methodology not only detects the fault efficiently but also enhances the backup protection. The proposed scheme is tested for high resistance fault, load change, noise condition, close-in fault, etc., and the results are found suitable.
