The majority of important material resources and the basis for a vast range of living things are available in the soil. However, the amount of toxic and hazardous materials and chemicals released into the environment has dramatically increased due to rapid industrial activity and urbanization development. In this regard, soil becomes a default sink for those detrimental anthropogenic pollutants such as heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, and many toxic organic compounds. Nano-based remediation technologies are a new approach to mitigate the pollution crisis of the soil environment. This book chapter aims to review the properties, synthesis, application, and uses of chitin-based nanomaterials for soil remediation from various pollutants. Chitin-based nanomaterials are effective in many agricultural processes like, crop defense, pathogen resistance, plant growth, soil conditioning agents, and seed coatings. However, like most of the nano remediation technologies, the application of chitin-based nanomaterials for soil remediation is confined to lab spaces and needs more commerce. Thus, the field's future possibilities lie in commercializing nano remediation techniques.

摘要
