Test of hypothesis is one of the most commonly used statistical methods in real-life. It is frequently used in the health and other scientific and social science studies. Often hypothesis test is an important component of evidence-based decision-making. The main purpose of a test of hypothesis is to decide if a suitably formulated null hypothesis (see Sect. 8.1.3) should be rejected based on the sample evidence. If the sample produces unusually large/small or extreme results, then the null hypothesis becomes untenable. Understanding of many published research articles requires the understanding of test of hypothesis, and related topics. So, it is essential for every researcher to know the fundamental concepts, basic assumptions, and procedures of test of hypotheses.
