The local political map shows how disparate schisms on the axes of caste, gender, ideology, and aspirations are tied to the various political organisations (re)defining their fate in electoral politics. Refraining from reducing the local political milieu only to the grand spectacles and events of elections, campaigns, electoral triumphs, and defeats, this chapter delves into everyday discourses and actions that constitute local politics. It examines how electoral understanding, participation, and voices of youths’ influence and inform local Dalit politics. Moving beyond the local, the chapter unpacks how the national political discourses on caste, religion, and nation impress on the local political discourse and in turn (re)shaped by the local political expectations.
