Primary healthcare is a community-based and comprehensive approach to the health and well-being of an individual. This chapter demonstrates the community needs of persons with disabilities for primary healthcare, especially during COVID-19 and post-COVID period. However, persons with disabilities do not realize the importance and significance of primary healthcare in strengthening their ability against viruses and diseases; increasing their self-care ability in independent living, and developing capacity over the challenges ahead in the future due to ageing and bodily deterioration. Regarding the need assessment of the community, Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong has been serving persons with disabilities through community understanding and analysis. They have devoted efforts to launching community-based projects to promote the idea of primary healthcare for persons with disabilities psychosocially. These interventions aim in enhancing the life quality of persons with disabilities. Besides, promoting primary healthcare needs more alliancing partners, including commercial sectors, and medical and healthcare professionals, to generate greater social impacts to the community. In practice, Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong organises health-related talks and sharing and new sports activities for persons with disabilities. Positive influences are present after those interventions. This chapter will illustrate more on how these interventions are carried out and the rationale behind them.
