The Misinformation of Social Media During the COVID-19: Reflections and Suggestions
摘要
This chapter explores why the spread of COVID-19 has evolved into an infodemic, a phenomenon often attributed to the proliferation of misinformation on social media. Based on a brief study of information sources during the onset of COVID-19, this paper argues that while social media significantly exacerbates the infodemic, the root problem lies in the limited availability of reliable information. Social media users had few credible sources to reference, discuss, and share. Moreover, even the most reputable media and internet sources were ideologically biased, often sensationalizing the issue.
