Teflon-Free MVD for Trigeminal Neuralgia: Advancing a Logical Technique
摘要
Microvascular decompression (MVD) remains the mainstay of surgical treatment for trigeminal neuralgia (TN). However the technique as proposed by Dr. Jannetta has not changed since his initial description in spite of a number of failures and recurrences. Teflon, while being the substrate of choice as initially described, may be part of the problem. We review the evolution of surgical treatments for TN up through MVD, discuss and illustrate the problems with Teflon, and propose a Teflon-free MVD technique as an option to improve outcomes.
