This chapter provides an up‐to‐date description of the formulation and implementation of combined Computational Fluid Dynamics and Discrete Element Method (CFD‐DEM) modeling. The different contact force models of particles are discussed along with their applicability and limitations. The couplings between solid and fluid momentum equations are described and the implementation of external forces is presented. The virtual calibration methods of the DEM input parameters are proposed to aid not only researchers but also engineers in CFD-DEM modelling industrial applications.
