Electrodeposition Techniques for Wastewater Treatment
摘要
Globally, urbanization and industrialization have impacted the environment severely. The basic necessity like scarcity of water, food contamination, adulteration, and air pollution has increased the global warming. Among this, one of important global issues is degradation in quality of water. Due to discharge of industrial effluents, the water is contaminated with the potential carcinogens, pathogens, and other non-degradable components which are harmful to the human health. Wastewater is very harmful as it is directly deteriorating the human health leading to the imbalance of all ecosystems. In this context, the finding of efficient, effective, and economic solution has become an emerging priority. Research on treating wastewater through different means is carried out at different levels all around globe. Various means, viz. biological, physical, and chemical, are explored for treating wastewater. Among the diverse methodologies for treating wastewater, the electrochemical method holds important for primary importance as it can easily deposit the heavy metals present in the water. Electrodeposition method helps in binding of the coating metal on surface of the conductor via simple electrolysis solution. The unique advantage of this method is no additional usage of chemical and selective removal of heavy metal ions from the any of the contaminated wastewater. The present chapter focuses on the electrodeposition methods, its types along with its future scope for treating the wastewater.
