Soft matter constitutes a large portion of all materials we come across in our daily lives for example foods, pastes, sauces, gels, polymers and many more. Such materials are soft to touch and readily deformed under small perturbation forces. In this chapter, we explore various properties of such soft materials and their difference with conventional hard condensed matter. The various molecular forces contributing to the characteristics of these soft materials are briefly discussed.
