This book chapter delves into the emerging potential of Ficus fruits as a source of anti-inflammatory agents with significant therapeutic implications. Ficus species have been traditionally utilized in various cultures for their medicinal properties, yet their anti-inflammatory potential remains underexplored. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature and experimental evidence, this review elucidates the diverse bioactive compounds present in Ficus fruits, such as flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and triterpenoids, which exhibit potent anti-inflammatory effects. It not only examines the ethnopharmacological importance of Ficus fruits in various cultural backgrounds, but it also examines the mechanistic pathways underlying the anti-inflammatory action of these compounds, including modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, inhibition of inflammatory enzymes, and regulation of oxidative stress. The synergistic interactions among these bioactive constituents contribute to the overall efficacy of Ficus fruits in attenuating inflammatory responses. Importantly, the findings highlight the therapeutic promise of Ficus fruits in mitigating inflammatory disorders, including but not limited to arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative conditions. This research underscores the necessity for further investigations to unlock the full therapeutic potential of Ficus fruits and pave the way for the development of novel anti-inflammatory therapies.
