Nutraceutical Potential of Edible Plants for Balancing Dietary Requirements in Human Diet: A Case Study

The present study on edible plants, which are distributed in Kozhikode district, documented a total of 50 species of plants belonging to 38 genera and 25 families. Out of these 25 families represented, Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae are the first dominant families with six species each, followed by Moraceae with four species, and then Amaranthaceae, Annonaceae, and Myrtaceae with three species; each and other families are represented with two and single species, respectively. They used different plant parts like fruits (37 Nos.), leaves (9 Nos.), seed (1 No.), tuber (1 No.), rhizome/corm (2 Nos.), etc. Are used for edible purposes. Some of the documented edible plants also have various medicinal properties too.
