The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is one of the largest producers and exporters of oil and gas in the world. Its strategic importance in the global energy market has attracted international attention and political pressures, leading to complex energy politics and geopolitical conflicts. One significant environmental issue confronting the GCC region is the risk of oil spills and their implications for climate change. Oil spills can have severe environmental and economic impacts on the region's marine ecosystem, threatening the livelihoods of the local communities and biodiversity. Moreover, oil spills contribute to carbon emissions, exacerbating climate change, and posing significant challenges to the region's long-term development goals. As a result, there is a pressing need to implement effective and comprehensive policies and regulations for oil spill prevention, preparedness, and response. This paper provides a geopolitical review of energy politics in the GCC region, emphasizing the challenges and implications of oil spills on climate change. It analyzes the different economic, political, and technological factors that impact the implementation of effective policies for energy and oil spill management in the region. The paper highlights the need for international cooperation and coordination to ensure effective oil spill prevention and response, as well as the importance of investing in scientific research and advanced technologies to enhance the region's capacity to manage oil spills. Overall, this paper concludes that while the region's energy politics is crucial for maintaining its geopolitical influence and economic development, the management of environmental hazards, particularly oil spills, is vital for ensuring sustainable development and climate resilience in the GCC region.
