The UAE is one of the leading countries in the healthcare industry in the Gulf region, attracting experienced healthcare professionals. The development of countries’ healthcare systems is measured by specific profile indicators identified by UNICEF. Maternal and infant healthcare, and maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality rates are considered to be some of the most important indicators. The World Bank Gender Data Portal declared that the maternal mortality ratio (women’s deaths within 42 days of pregnancy-related causes per 100,000 live births) in the UAE has improved; the rate decreased from 22 in the year 2000 to 9 in the year 2020. The proportion of skilled birth attendants (“the number of childbirths attended by skilled health personnel such as doctors, nurses, or midwives, which can also refer to other health professionals providing childbirth care”) is considered to be one of the profile indicators of UNICEF, used to reflect the healthcare system status in a country. In the UAE, the reported rate was 99.2% in 2018, which is a good reflection of the significant efforts made by the authorities and healthcare institutions in the country to maintain the ongoing improvement in the healthcare sector.
