Keratoglobus
摘要
Keratoglobus is a bilateral globular protrusion of the cornea, characterized by thinning and ectasia of the entire cornea from limbus to limbus with normal corneal diameter and axial length. Although most of the cases are congenital, very few acquired cases are reported. Though congenital, the diagnosis may be delayed or missed, or the condition may get misdiagnosed as primary congenital glaucoma or megalocornea. Features of thin cornea with protrusion, presence of blue sclera sometimes and associated systemic features, and positive family history may help one clinch the diagnosis. Examination of the other eye in the presence of traumatic injuries to one eye may help in early picking up of the diagnosis. The diagnosis is important as it will help in preventing further injuries to the patients and managing the condition with various surgical procedures such as epikeratoplasty, compression sutures, penetrating keratoplasty, or lamellar keratoplasties. We hereby describe cases of keratoglobus managed with contact lenses and surgeries.
