Global Curriculum Design: Fostering Cultural Intelligence and Intercultural Communication
摘要
The internationalization of the curriculum is a key concern for higher education in addressing the critical issue of educating students for an increasingly interconnected world. This chapter discusses the theoretical, application model, and pedagogy for incorporating intercultural communication skills and cultural intelligence (CQ) as components of academic/educational program design. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, the chapter is framed within the perspectives of international educational psychology and applied linguistics, with an emphasis on creating well-rounded graduates in a multicultural-oriented higher education and work and employability context. It encompasses systematic curriculum mapping, creative instructional design models, and reflective assessment models, as well as comprehensive teaching staff development initiatives and strategic institutional policy determinations. Practical implementation is illustrated through case studies from higher education institutions across different continents, demonstrating successful integration in diverse contexts. The chapter concludes by suggesting a student-centered curriculum design/development that occurs through transformative, future-oriented, and virtually supported, facilitated by cross-border as well as cross-disciplinary collaborations, and authentic learning experiences, to foster in university graduates deep cultural competences and ethical global citizenship.
