The COVID-19 pandemic has hampered international development initiatives. The pandemic will have far-reaching consequences, touching every facet of human existence and impeding all kind of progress including the aspirational and utopian Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs were agreed upon by the international community in 2015 as a means to both forward the unfinished business of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and enhance the living standards of all inhabitants of the world. The third SDG of 17 sustainable development goals ensures the people of globe enjoy a good physical and mental health. Recent struggle against the COVID-19 pandemic has become the top priority on the international agenda and achieving the sustainable development goals by 2030 has become secondary. Because of interconnected nature of these issues, the SDG 3 is also adversely affected. While anaylsing these developments we encounter a number of questions. Thus this paper analyses such questions like: In the light of current humanitarian catastrophe how should we priorities for achieving health goals? How can we maximize the use of our resources without compromising the health of all? These questions are equally vital even if they don’t seem to be of the highest importance given in the current circumstances. The SDGs cannot be isolated from the pandemic response. In fact, achieving sustainable goals will set us firmly on the right track to addressing threats to global health and newly emerging infectious diseases. This paper also tries to suggest some ways forward for the achieving SDG 3.
