Spatial (in) Justice and Vulnerable Communities: A Study on the Landslide Susceptibility of Dalits in Idukki District, Kerala
摘要
Seeking justice or alleviating injustice is one of the primary objectives of all modern societies. Unjust geographies play a crucial role in making the marginalised communities of society more susceptible to disasters. Adivasis, Dalits, tea workers and the poor are more susceptible to landslides in Kerala. Idukki is one of the most landslide-prone districts in Kerala. Landslide fatalities in the last four years show that Dalits in the Idukki district are disproportionately exposed to Landslides. The present paper is an attempt to analyse the unjust geographies produced by socio-spatial processes which make Dalit communities more vulnerable to Landslides from a spatial perspective.
