Housing quality is an important indicator of rural people's subjective well-being in India, as they spend more money on houses than on anything else in their entire life. This research evaluates the architectural quality of residential structures in a village in Uttar Pradesh, India. As housing quality is multi-dimensional and influenced by a variety of factors, this study focuses primarily on architectural qualities such as house size, building materials, natural light, layout design, and house accessibility. A pilot study of 50 houses was conducted using a random sampling technique. SPSS was used to analyze data (descriptive statistics and one sample t-test) via a questionnaire and then evaluate it quantitatively. The authors' aim is to learn about the most common house layout type in Indo-Gangetic region villages of Uttar Pradesh, India, as well as the common challenges that residents face in their houses due to a lack of architectural knowledge. The research finally concluded with recommendations for improving the housing quality in the villages. The findings will benefit villagers, contractors, and policymakers involved in village housing.
