Migration has been one of the crucial factors in the making of human civilization. In ancient times, people migrated from one place to another in search of food, occupations, and a safe environment. Migration in the modern world has grown because of wars, persecution, violence, industrialization, and the growth of cities. There are several strands in the modern diaspora due to the various migration paths taken by varied groups of individuals away from the subcontinent and have changing patterns in late 20th century and early 21th century. The term “new diaspora” refers to a revitalization or expansion of the traditional definition of the term in that it is concentrated on the cultural, economic, political, and social factors that led to it and examines the shift of traditional ways of consciousness to a modern collective approach. This paper tries to explore African diaspora experiences through Abdulrazak Gurnah writings and Indian diasporic experiences of Agha Shahid Ali. Both of them are contemporary diasporic writers of the world. Abdulrazak Gurnah, a writer from Africa who won the Nobel Prize in 2021, was persecuted in Zanzibar and had to run away to London. In his works, he engages with the predicament of acquiring refugee status and depicts the problems faced by the migrants while adapting to and settling in a new country. He portrays stereotypical images of migrants in the host countries. Agha Shahid Ali Kashmiri-American poet whose poetry is cosmopolitan in nature. Due to insecurity and armed conflict he migrated to find safe place for coming generations. This study represents the essence of cultural resonance of Afro-Indian movements of both authors. The research methodology incorporated include critical analysis of the works written by both the chosen writers, from diaspora perspectives.
