Suicide is a universal tragic event that impacts families, friends, and communities. Each year, over one lakh people commit suicide due to a variety of factors, including career issues, isolation, abuse, violence, mental disorders, alcoholism, financial loss, and chronic pain (NCRB REPORT 2015). Suicide rates are high among vulnerable groups like refugees, migrants, indigenous peoples, LGBTTI, and prisoners.WHO programme aims to reduce suicide rates by one-third by 2030. LGBTQ+ youth in India face unique challenges due to socio-economic and cultural injustices, leading to intolerance, discrimination, harassment, and violence. This chapter explores the distressing reality of suicide among LGBTQ+ youth in India, analysing the demographics related to LGBTQ+ suicide data available in the National Crime Report Bureau Accidental Deaths and Death by Suicide chapter (NCRB), despite being a nation that embraces all cultures and customs, Indian society remains conservative in accepting homosexuality. Sexual minorities are often targeted by hate crimes, verbally, physically, and sexually. This study aims to understand the LGBTQ community suicide and its demographic causes. This chapter aims to peep deep inside distressing reality of suicide among LGBTQ+ youth in India, exploring state-wise data to have a better understanding of the scope of this issue and its underlying causes.
