Poverty refers to the condition where a significant portion of the population lacks the necessities required to maintain a decent standard of living. India is a vast and diverse country with a population of over 1.3 billion people, and it has been facing the challenge of poverty for many decades. The study draws on various socio-economic indicators and government initiatives to shed light on the challenges faced by the vulnerable SC communities in the states of Haryana and Punjab, India. Through an extensive analysis of available data (NFHS), the study highlights the disproportionate impact of poverty on the Scheduled Caste population, reflecting the deep-rooted socio-economic disparities that persist in these states. Poverty indicators, such as income levels, education, sanitation, and housing conditions, are explored to provide a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted dimensions of poverty among the SC communities. The findings of this study show a high prevalence of poverty among scheduled caste (SC) people of Haryana and Punjab. It was found that (97.9%) of poor people are from scheduled caste. In Haryana and Punjab (79.79%) of poor people are not covered by health scheme. Only (12.26%) of poor people have more than 10 hectares of agricultural land, but (87.74%) poor people from Haryana and Punjab do not have agricultural land. In conclusion, this abstract emphasizes the urgent need for collaborative efforts from the government, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to address the persisting issues of poverty among the Scheduled Caste people in Haryana and Punjab. By identifying the barriers to accessing government facilities and advocating for tailored solutions, the research aims to contribute to the broader goal of promoting social justice and inclusive development for the marginalized SC communities in the region.
