Most of the south Indian cities lack proper urban planning and development mainly in terms of land transportation networks which leads to traffic congestion and accidental hotspots. Increased number of vehicles, improper road networks, traffic congestion, and lack of management of the traffic system are leading to accidental hotspots in most of the city regions. Mangaluru is one of the important coastal cities of India where accidental hotspots are noted. The present study focuses on identifying the accidental hotspots in Mangaluru city by adopting the techniques of the Geographic Information System (GIS). Various traffic accidental data combined with spatial information are used in the study. To evaluate the spatial distribution of accidental hotspots, Moran's I methods of spatial autocorrelation, Getis-Ord Gi* statistics, and The Kernel Density were applied. The result acquired from to study can be used for proper management of traffic in accidental hotspot regions to avoid accidental incidents.
