The 4th UNESCO-UNITWIN Symposium in Seoul in 2021, held amidst the tumult of the COVID-19 pandemic, catalyzed this yearbook. With global society facing unprecedented challenges, including catastrophic climate events and rising nationalism, in addition to a readily transmissible, potentially fatal disease, the conference pivoted to a virtual format to allow the arts education community to grapple with the urgent need for creative solutions to the profound and universal disruptions of the pandemic. This book, stemming from that conference, reflects a concerted effort to harness the transformative power of arts education in addressing these multifaceted crises. The call for papers, inspired by the activism of figures like Greta Thunberg and rooted in the ethos of collective authorship in climate solutions, drew in a diverse range of scholars and practitioners, who presented groundbreaking ideas on how we might build back better by using arts education to inspire, educate, and mobilize.
