Biobased Product Design, Development, and Utilization in the Global South
摘要
The design, development, and use of biobased economy are required to meet the world’s increasing demand for food, materials, and energy while maintaining biodiversity and the ecological balance of the planet (Lewandowski, 2018; Sharma et al., 2021). Biobased products are often biodegradable and have a lower environmental footprint. They can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, decrease dependence on fossil fuels, and minimize pollution (Lewandowski, 2018). The advancement and application of biobased products stimulate innovation and foster economic growth. This opens up new markets and prospects, especially within the agricultural and industrial sectors. For example, biobased plastics, biofuels, and biochemicals are progressively being researched and implemented as sustainable replacements for traditional equivalents. Additionally, biobased products contribute to rural development by providing new income sources for farmers and rural communities (Chandel et al., 2020; Lewandowski, 2018).
