Developmental Issues of University Students
摘要
University students are the pillars of society’s future, and the cultivation of holistic development of university students through university education is essential. Unfortunately, there is worrying evidence of the developmental issues faced by university students in both international and local contexts. These issues include psychological well-being problems (e.g., depression, anxiety, suicide, and non-suicidal self-injury), psychosocial stressors (e.g., academic burden, interpersonal stress, and financial pressure), addictive behaviors (e.g., substance abuse and Internet addiction), interpersonal problems (e.g., interpersonal conflicts and violence), conflict and communication issues with parents, lifestyle issues (e.g., sleep problems, nutrition issues, or lack of exercise), and character, value, or law abidance problems (e.g., plagiarism, over-materialistic, growing egocentrism, and sexual harassment). This chapter examines international and local news on these developmental issues among university students, highlights the urgent need to nurture holistic development in university students, suggests ways to improve the well-being of university students, and briefly outlines the organization of the fourteen chapters in this book.
