Building Babel is a mixed-genre book by Suniti Namjoshi, published in 1996 by the feminist publishing house Spinifex Press. The book—a mixture of fiction, poetry, nonfiction, fable, and memoiristic writing—describes the construction and deconstruction of culture under the regime of Crone Kronos. Not only is the book a fantastic metatextual allegory for the process of writing itself, but it also crosses media boundaries by placing its last chapter on the Internet as a collaborative writing project between Namjoshi, the author, and all her readers. Building Babel makes readers sit up, take note of the quirky host of characters, and follow them along in their vignette-like representations.
