Reetika Vazirani was born in Patiala, India, on August 9, 1962. She was just a child when her family immigrated to the USA and made White Oak, Illinois, their home. She studied at Springbrook High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, and later at Wellesley College. She was awarded a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship to travel to Asian countries: India, Thailand, Japan, and China. She also received an MFA from the University of Virginia. Vazirani is a poet, and her collections of poems are White Elephants, World Hotel, and Radha Says, the last one published posthumously.
