Sanjena Anshu Sathian was born to Indian immigrant parents in Georgia. She grew up in Atlanta and went to Westminster School. She got a BA in English from Yale University in 2013 and then worked as a reporter for the media start-up OZY. In 2017, she received the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, which took her to the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. After graduating in 2019 with an MFA in creative writing, she worked as a technology journalist in San Francisco and as a foreign correspondent in India.
