Salaam, Paris, published in 2006, is the third novel of Kavita Daswani. Its protagonist Tanaya Shah is a Muslim woman with roots in Mahim, Mumbai. Watching Sabrina with her friend Neelu, she weaves dreams of going to Paris like its heroine Audrey Hepburn. But the course of her life has been predetermined by her grandfather: to marry and be a devout wife and mother. Since Tanaya is deeply attached to him, she does not see any chance of realizing her dreams. She had been deprived of parental love because her father had abandoned her mother when Tanaya was very young because he thought her ugly. Embittered by her rejection, the mother did not love her daughter who was gifted with head-turning beauty. Tanaya gets a chance to go to Paris when her grandfather gets a marriage proposal for her from Tariq, who is based right there. To honor her grandfather’s word, Tanya flies to Paris, where she stays with her aunt Mina.
