Reterritorialization is the process of territorializing once again a territory that was earlier an organized space but has experienced deterritorialization. Since the former is only a response to the latter, it is imperative to understand it. Deterritorialization refers to the process of dismantling or dissolving the established boundaries or structures of a particular territory. This term was coined by Deleuze and Guattari, who argue that it is a deliberate strategy of all new powers to establish their complete control over a territory by destroying and destabilizing all that already exists. Reterritorialization is the creation of new territory from the components of a territory that has been deterritorialized by “reappropriation and resignification.” Reterritorialization affects individual and community identity in physical, psychological, ethnic, religious, and cultural aspects, resulting in intersections and conflicts.
