Raymond Ramcharitar is a Caribbean literary and media critic, journalist, historian, poet, and novelist from Trinidad and Tobago. He studied at the University of the West Indies, earning degrees in Economics (BA 1991), Literature (MA 2002), and Cultural History (PhD 2007). Awarded a creative writing fellowship by Boston University, he studied poetry and drama with Derek Walcott in 2000. In addition to his journalism with the Trinidad Guardian and the Trinidad Express, Ramcharitar has published fiction The Island Quintet in 2009 and poetry American Fall in 2007 and Here and Modern Age &c in 2013. He has also written a book of media criticism, Breaking the News, Media, and Culture in Trinidad (2005), a historical study, A History of Creole Trinidad, 1956–2010 (2021), a play, Paradiso (2002), and essays on literary, cultural, and historical subjects.
