Kirin Narayan was born Kirin Contractor in November 1959. In her work, one finds a rich interplay of cultural amalgamation, familial nuances, and profound scholarly pursuits in anthropology and literature. Originating from a lineage of architects, her father, Narayan Ramji Contractor, departed from familial traditions, to pursue civil engineering in the United States. His marriage to Didi Kinzinger, a German American artist, led to their relocation to India, where Kinzinger assumed a distinctive role as a “Didi” or elder sister in the hills of Kangra.
