Jasbir Jain, an eminent scholar, is the Honorary Director of the Institute for Research in Interdisciplinary Studies (IRIS), Jaipur, and an elected Life Member of Clare Hall, Cambridge. She was a Sahitya Akademi Writer-in-Residence (2009) and Emeritus Fellow (2001–2003) at the University of Rajasthan and had teaching assignments in Europe and the United States. Recipient of several awards and fellowships, Jain has authored and edited many books, including Writing Women Across Cultures (2002); Writers of the Indian Diaspora (2005); Beyond Postcolonialism: Dreams and Realities of a Nation (2006); Women’s Writing: Dialogue with Patriarchy (2007 ); Writers of the Caribbean Diaspora: Shifting Homelands, Travelling Identities (2008); Indigenous Roots of Feminism: Culture, Subjectivity and Agency (2011); and Interpreting Cinema: Adaptations, Intertextualities, Art Movements (2020). Her writings testify to her expertise on diverse subjects, including partition narratives, gender, film studies, cultural narratives, postcolonialism, and diaspora. Her academic engagement with diaspora began in 1991 with the publication of Problems of Postcolonial Literatures and Other Essays in which she investigates the use of rituals and metaphors in the works of V.S. Naipaul, Wole Soyinka, Nayantara Sahgal, and Michel Trembley to map the development of new genres and express the postcolonial situation and the uprootedness that these writers face. Since then, her connection with the diaspora has gone through many transitions.
