Island Quintet: A Sequence, The, by Raymond Ramcharitar
摘要
The Island Quintet: A Sequence is the first work of prose fiction published by Trinidadian poet and social critic Raymond Ramcharitar. It consists of four short stories and a novella thematically connected around questions of contemporary Trinidad and Tobago’s racialized construction of national, aesthetic, class, and gender identities and explored through interracial, often transgressive sexual relationships. The narrators and protagonists, like Ramcharitar himself, are primarily Western-educated Indian-Trinidadian journalists, artists, and professionals who shuttle between London, New York, and the West Indies, though, in many cases, only a generation removed from the impoverished limitations of rural island life.
