Samina Ali was born in 1969 in Hyderabad to Mir and Ashraf Ali. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1971. Samina grew up amidst two different cultures, as her father ensured that the family spent 6 months every year in India to stay connected to their roots, language, and traditions. This hybrid upbringing shaped Ali’s fluid identity. She has a degree in English from the University of Minnesota and an M.F.A from the University of Oregon. At present, she is settled with her family in New York.
