The interpretation of sign-texts relies on the relationship between the text and culture. It also depends on the contract that the receiver is forced to enter with the given culture as determined by the genre. But how does the receiver know he has signed this contract and not another one? How does the receiver discover such a linkage? Because the receiver sees some signs when receiving the text, which may exist within the text (such as genres mentioned in the previous chapter) or outside the text.
