Degenerations and Depositions
摘要
This chapter provides an illustrative guide to the diverse age-related changes and pathologies affecting the ocular surface. It begins with depictions of pinguecula and pterygium, highlighting their prevalence and impact on the conjunctiva. Images of conjunctival concretions and epithelial inclusion cysts offer a glimpse into these common yet often asymptomatic conditions. Conjunctivochalasis and its effect on tear film dynamics are visualized, emphasizing its importance in ocular irritation syndromes. The section on corneal degenerations and depositions showcases the breadth of epithelial and subepithelial changes, including band keratopathy and Salzmann’s nodular degeneration. Mid- and deep stromal changes such as lipid and calcium deposits are depicted in detailed photographs, as are changes affecting the endothelium like guttata. Additionally, the atlas explores drug-induced changes such as cornea verticillata and other deposits linked to medication side effects. This chapter serves as an essential visual resource for clinicians to identify and manage a range of degenerative and depositional diseases of the eye.
