An Improved Space Charge Modeling for 1-D Large-Signal Algorithm of Traveling Wave Tubes

In the analysis of space charge fields within large-signal simulations of traveling wave tubes (TWTs), a common approach is to approximate slow-wave structures as smooth waveguides to accelerate computational performance. However, this approximation can introduce errors in the results. To improve the accuracy of calculations, this paper presents an enhanced space charge model for 1-D large-signal algorithms applied to TWTs. This model accounts for the periodic geometric variations of the metal walls while maintaining computational efficiency. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through a series of comparative simulations.
