Drought is an incident that occurs in almost all climatic regions. It is not just an absence of rainfall but a continued period of little rainfall. Maharashtra, despite being the financial capital, is not well prepared to handle the undesirable effects of drought thus proper drought vulnerability studies are required there. For the present study, from 1981 to 2022 mainly rainfall data was downloaded from NASA Power Access and then SPI (Standardized Precipitation Index) was analysed. Using the SPI values parameters like EDF (Frequency of Extreme Drought), SDF (Frequency of Severe Drought), DM (Magnitude of Drought), MDI (Mean Intensity of Drought), RPED (Extreme Drought Return Period) and RPSD (Severe Drought Return Period) for the time scale of 3, 6, 12, 24 months each were evaluated. Using these parameters spatial layers were prepared using kriging function in Arc GIS software. These spatial maps give a rough sketch of the drought scenario in Maharashtra. Thus proper mitigation and management policies are required to be adapted in Maharashtra to diminish the unpleasant effects of drought.

摘要
