Drought is the largely reoccurring natural hazards because of meteorological imbalances and climate change and impacts every other spheres like agriculture, hydrology and socio-economical. In this research work the rainfall data was collected from 1981 to 2022 from NASA Power Access and here mainly SPI (Standardized Precipitation Index) was used as a drought index. Several parameters like EDF (Frequency of Extreme Drought), SDF (Frequency of Severe Drought), DM (Magnitude of Drought), MDI (Mean Intensity of Drought), RPED (Extreme Drought Return Period) and RPSD (Severe Drought Return Period) for the time scale of 3, 6, 12, 24 months each were calculated from SPI and evaluated for spatio temporal analysis of drought in Tamil Nadu. ArcGIS was used for spatial layer preparation of the parameters stated earlier. The spatio-temporal estimation of drought in Tamil Nadu shows the need and urgency of drought mitigation policies and schemes there to lessen the unlikeable effects of drought.

摘要
