Diabetic neuropathy is one of the diseases which can damage the nerves due to the presence of excess sugar and cause pain along with numbness. In the modern treatment, antioxidant therapy is the foremost method to control and manage the disease by decreasing the number of free radicals which reduces the oxidative stress and leads to less damage. When the various medications are combined with the antioxidant therapy it boosts the outcome of the treatment by improving the management and alleviating the symptoms. Antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, Alpha lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, among others, are integrated with conventional anti-inflammatory medications, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, topical creams containing anesthetics like lidocaine, to counteract the abundance of free radicals and diminish oxidative stress. This approach aims to enhance pain management, facilitate the repair and protection of nerve cells to boost the neuronal functions and improve symptoms. The future implication of this treatment has the potential to reduce the medication doses which can decrease the drug dependency, can be holistic treatment which not only addresses the disease but also manages the symptoms aside decreasing the discomfort with pain. However, it is imperative to note that challenges such as individual response variability, drug–antioxidant interactions, and limited supporting evidence pose potential obstacles for future investigations and advancements.
