Nervous System Disorders and Disability
摘要
The nervous system controls and regulates all bodily functions while transmitting signals from the brain, spinal cord, and various organs throughout the body. This chapter provides an in-depth analysis of neurological disorders associated with the nervous system that cause a disability. The chapter explains the way injuries or dysfunctions to the spinal cord, brain, and peripheral nerves can disrupt movement, sensation, cognition, and behaviour. Furthermore, the chapter illustrates various clinical manifestations and the complications of the involvement of the nervous system in disability. Additionally, the chapter explains the way people with nervous system disorders and disabilities (epilepsy, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, etc.) frequently experience social difficulties such as movement impairments, inaccessibility to education and jobs, and social exclusion, which has a profound impact on both the affected person and his or her family.
